Our Vision

What if we returned to that initial vision for a Meeting House:

A gathering place that serves its local community and the many groups within it.

Not only a religious place, but a place for town events, celebrations, and performances.

A place where the sounds of voices and instruments reverberate within a hall made over 223 years ago with perfect natural acoustics.

A place constructed by community and for community, forged from local materials.

A place that inspires hope, belonging, and a feeling larger than the individual.

What if we took that historic vision and the historic building it once thrived in, and updated them for a new age.

About

The Meeting House at Cornwall is a performing arts community center formed out of the First Congregational Church of Cornwall, a building originally constructed in 1803 to create community and serve as a heart for the town.

Starting Spring 2026, The Meeting House will host professional performances and community events alike. Attend concerts, theatre pieces, book talks, lectures, community dinners, coffee hours, jazz jams, comedy nights, and more!

The Meeting House strives to serve the needs and excitements of Cornwall, Addison County, greater VT, and all those who step through our doors.

We are committed to uplifting local talent and making the arts financially and culturally accessible.

Over the next few years, The Meeting House at Cornwall will transition into a formal secular 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with the building and seed funding from The First Congregational Church of Cornwall. Until then, the organization operates legally and financially through the church.

This project is made possible by the vision and generosity of the late Charles Callahan, professional organist and dear member of the congregation.

Benjamin Adam Weiss
Program Director
(he/him)

Benjamin involves himself in every angle of the arts he can find a way into. He is a Middlebury College alum, where he studied music and sociology, researching how the performing arts can intentionally cultivate a sense of community. In addition to applying that exact concept to The Meeting House, Benjamin is also the Production Manager for the Opera Company of Middlebury and a ski instructor at Sugarbush. Benjamin keeps the arts central to his life by performing and directing music and theatre pieces. He is a vocalist, cellist, pianist, and actor. As he looks to make new VT friendships, come by The Meeting House sometime and say hi. He loves talking and listening!
